Yaowawit School

Yaowawit School

Here are some more photos of our trip to the Yaowawit school in September 14, 2011. Our goal was to find out exactly what the school needed.

Luckily, in addition to talking to Ms. Sabine and Vincent, there is a board with a list of things needed, along with the approximate cost to complete the purchase or job:

Repair some roof damage - 10,000 Baht
Paint the classrooms and children's dormatories - 30,000 Baht
Doors and locks need replacing - 20,000 Baht
Science lab equipment - 14,000 Baht
Microscope - 9,800 Baht

In addition to these items, they would like more sporting supplies including football shoes and jerseys, clothes, and bicycles. There are only five bikes for 125 students. Also, they are in need of volunteers to teach English, music and sports.

Happy kids studying in a circle on the floor. Even though most of these kids have extremely painful backgrounds, they seem very well-adjusted at this loving school. They are actually the lucky ones.

Their hard studying was interupted by our camera... sorry about that.

Always looking for ways to have fun and create educational experiences, here is a poster for a cooking competition. The volunteers who work at the school were the judges.

Three rice fields supply some of the rice for the school meals.

The Morning Glory garden is watered by a "Gilligan's Island" style pump system.

One of the goals of the school is to be as self-sufficient as possible. Here is one of their herb gardens.

A beautiful little creek courses its way through the farm/garden property. This water is filtered for drinking water.

Mr. Vincent, a wonderful chap who is volunteering at the school as part of his university program. He's a great guy and extremely helpful. That lovely woman beside him is my wife, Ms. Moo.
