Wildlife
Pictures from Khao Sok National Park
in Southern Thailand
You never really know what
you'll see in Khao Sok National Park. We've seen so many rare animals
that it almost doesn't surprise us any longer.
The Gaur was seen during
a pouring rain in September. They usually only come out when it's
not too hot. When it's raining, they'll come out of cover to eat.
The Sun Bear was seen during
the rainy season too. It was out foraging along the shore of a deep
cove. There's a cub tucked away in the underbrush taking a bit of
time to stretch.

A wonderful sighting... the rare Gaur
stares at me (Dave) while I shoot video footage. |

I captured some stills from the footage. It is dazzling
seeing this incredible animal move. |

Rippling muscles and its massive bulk are impressive to
say the least. The biggest and strongest animals in the
world are vegetarians. |

The Southern Serow is a goat-like grazer
with short pointy horns. It generally likes thick jungle
and is often seen in areas with limestone mountains and
cliffs. This is rare. |

The smallest bear in the world is the Sun Bear.
This bear weights between 25 and 65 kilograms. though it
looks like a big Teddy Bear, this is one of the most feared
animals in SE Asia. It can attack without provocation. |

It's not uncommon to come upon a feeding raptor in Khao
Sok. This Wallace's Hawk-eagle is eating
another fairly large bird. We couldn't really tell which
bird it was eating, but it had big blue legs. |

In a hollow tree in the middle of the reservoir, we came
upon some bats. They were lined up one
on top of another looking at us. |

The Asian Soft-shelled Turtle is much
prized for it's meat, so it's not often that you see one.
We've seen them on a few occasions. |

Few animals can rival the Slow Loris on the cuteness scale. |

Longtail Macaques are the most common monkey in the South.
They travel in large troops with one Alpha male in charge. |
If
you want to see incredible animals, let us treat you to a trip
to Khao Sok National Park. This is the best place in the South
to see animals.
