Our floating accommodations for the week.

Almost to the summit of the viewpoint

At the summit of the viewpoint.

Chilling in a luxurious shelter

Sturdy split bamboo flooring would make for a fairly comfortable night's sleep

Almost done, this shelter was the well-constructed

Hello vine, come on down!

This is where the vine (above) ended up... a fine job of lashing

Drinking pure water directly from a vine.

Uncle Wind and Tom chipping in with the shelter

Testing the sitability of the shelter

One nice alternative to making a traditional shelter is to make a hammock. Uncle Wind shows how to do it with one piece of bamboo, a saw and a knife. He can do it with just a knife, but the saw makes it easier. A folding saw turns out to be as useful as a knife in the jungle.

Teacher, trip organizer and an inspiration to us all, Mr. Jonny Tate

One of the many games played was king of the over-turned sit-on-top boat

Making quality fire tinder from dry bamboo

Shaving and smoothing the edges on a bamboo strip to be used in the webbing of the hammock.

Fine-cutting the bamboo strips for the weaving

The delicate job of weaving in the bamboo strips

A bit more webbing and this hammock is done

This is a sturdy raft... well done!

As busy as we were, we always managed to have at least an hour of free time per day.
These students work very hard in school and thoroughly deserve some free time.

The ever-entertaining Ron helping everyone in the group by showing them how NOT to nail the landing... doh!
